Do NOT put grease down the drain. This should eliminate the need for any hot water, as was previously suggested. Run COLD water for 30 - 60 seconds AFTER the drain is clear, so that the waste doesn't stop short and cause a blockage. Cold water keeps the disposal from overheating, and again NO GREASE!
